Earth Day with Twisted X

On this Earth Day, April 22^nd 2024, Twisted X® hosted its 3^rd annual corporate cleanup to celebrate the culmination of steps taken throughout the entire year to be good stewards of the environment. Each year, employees from Twisted X 's two HQ buildings gather in Decatur Texas, armed with biodegradable trash bags, compostable gloves, and willing hands to pick up stray litter that, over time, creeps into fields, parking lots, and gets tangled in fences. Whether trash accumulates accidentally, in the wake of a strong breeze, or by simple carelessness, our company takes personal responsibility to ensure we keep our sacred slice of Texas soil as unmarred as possible.

This cleanup followed a month-long initiative inviting others to join us in our “Love of the Land” campaign which highlights those making a difference in the environment, in the western industry, and beyond. During the month of April, retailers hosted their own cleanups, using Twisted X’s specially assembled cleanup kits, to equip them and ensure no barriers stood in the way of engaging their local communities to act. In yet another branch of this comprehensive effort, Twisted X teamed up with 4-H following the release of the new 4-H footwear collection, calling members to share their “Love of the Land” on social media.

However, as anyone with a true passion for sustainability knows, Earth Day cannot be confined to a holiday, or even the month of April- it must be a posture of the heart. And what better example of this is there other than our own CEO, Prasad Reddy, who reminded us that “every day should be Earth Day.” And how can this be possible? By infusing the attitude of sustainability and the willingness to be inconvenienced for the sake of the greater good into the everyday. Twisted X takes care not only to design hundreds of comfortable and stylish shoes, but also to ensure our materials and practices reflect an unhurried approach to loving the land.

The question “how can we be more sustainable?” is not usually answered by an easier path or shortcut, but by careful thought and intentionality. Examples of this can be found in our ecoTWX® and Blend85™ materials made from recycled plastic bottles and foam, or our focus on natural materials such as merino wool, cork, and bamboo. We take it a step further in our commitment to limit single use plastics in the office, using motion sensor lights to reduce energy use, hosting multiple recycling stations, and offsetting carbon emissions from our headquarters.

So as our team finished meandering among the weeds and the concrete, being careful not to leave even the smallest bit of trash behind, a sense of gratitude took hold- for the sunshine that shown around us, the wildflowers making themselves known among the green in their vivid shades, for the breeze that kept us moving - all things that can seem little or go unnoticed, things that ultimately make up the tapestry of our lands and our lives. Something to be cherished, protected, and shared. Something that can only be preserved by the small acts of a global community. Happy Earth Day!
