Tough Enough to Wear Pink

My name is Misty, and I became a five-year cancer survivor on February 20th, 2019. My wonderful husband Eric and I have two beautiful children named Bailee (19) and Brody (16). On February 19th, 2014 I found a knot in my breast. I was then diagnosed with Invasive Lobular Carcinoma. I was thirty-seven years old and had no family history. I traveled to Houston, Texas to visit the MD Anderson Cancer Center. I had eight surgeries, eight rounds of chemotherapy, and thirty-eight rounds of radiation. It was a long, hard fought journey, but God saw me through. I can’t express how important it is to self-check. I had never had a mammogram because I wasn’t forty years old, the age recommended for a woman’s first mammogram. If I hadn’t found the knot, my outcome could have been much different. I am so blessed and thankful to be a SURVIVOR!
