In 2011 I was diagnosed with stage 2B invasive ductal breast cancer.
After receiving the 1st Drs opinion I wasn’t satisfied, so I continued to research this specific type of cancer and went for a 2nd opinion.
My treatment began with 16 weekly treatments of chemo on a clinical research trial (that was brutal!), followed by a mastectomy and lymph node dissection. I was hopeful this would be the end of my treatment, however I then had 33 more chemo treatments to finish this process. In the middle of my first chemo treatments I was blessed to become a grandma for the first time and soon after learned that in another 6 months I would become a grandma for the 2nd time!
I was determined to beat this nasty cancer and so far have been cancer free and finished with all treatment for 5 years!!
The support of my husband, 2 children and grandchildren was what kept me going.
I encourage all women to get regular mammograms on a regular basis, not all are as lucky as I was to survive this.
